    Making pots this way is constant hard work just like farming with a mule is constant hard work. It is not a world for complainers or people who have to ask, when do we stop? I do wood firings and usually lose about 5 to 10 pounds from loading to unloading. I also drink about 8 liters of water per day to keep from becoming dehydrated. This life is so far removed from modern time, but I exactly like growing up on small farm which was my background. I love this world and can’t imagine life another way. It is definitely a filter that eliminates the lazy, narcissistic type.

    Here in Alaska, I heard people used to make beads out of small pieces of wood. Yes, and use animal parts for thread. But then the traders started bringing in the beaded jewelry. Just stories i was told

    There is indisputable evidence of multiple shell bead manufacturing sites in North America dating to multiple pre-Colombian time periods. I believe she’s most likely referencing glass beads specifically in this video.

    What is the story of the quilt?

    • @pluvieuse_
      @pluvieuse_ 8 місяців тому

      It tells the story of the fictional Cassie, an 8-year-old character who is based on Ringgold's own childhood memories of growing up in New York City. She would go up to the asphalt roof of her apartment building ("Tar Beach") with her family on hot nights, because there was no air-conditioning in the home. She dreams that she can fly, that she can do anything she imagines, as she lies on a blanket with her little brother. She dreams that she can give her father the union card that he has been denied because of his race. She dreams that she can let her mother sleep late, and eat ice cream every day for dessert. She even dreams that she can buy the building her father works in, and that her mother will not cry when her father can't find work. The quilt depicts the two children on the blanket, and her parents playing cards with the neighbors next to a table set with snacks and drinks. We also see Cassie flying through the sky near the top center. Tar Beach was later made into a children's book, one of several that Ringgold has written.

    When I was a child we use to dig in the dirt as children do but we found the most beautiful beads really old beads that the Eskimo people would trade to get things they needed for survival I wish I had kept some my Great Grandfather traded alot of stuff with them and it is now at the Smithsonian there was a time he regretted giving it to them cause as usual they capitalize on. The profits money is the most important factor

    Thank you. ive been wondering about the beads. What I really want to know is, how they heck did natives carve into bone, stone and animal tusks? When I google it, they only show modern techniques. I’ll keep looking. Thank you.

    Well we made beads in California...we made clamp disc beads and magnesite cylinder beads. The shells this woman is wearing on her neck are from the northwest coast of California and were traded throughout the plains.

    🤔 Are you ready to deal with different Slip Mediums? I could tell you how to work with Stone if you like... Could be profitable IF you're open to it. Won't bore you with the details unless you're open to accepting New Concepts and Ideas. Note: You're Not the Only One I'm reaching out to. Show me your Worth and Willingness and I'll show you a "New" medium to work with.
